Introduction

Tamron is known from it’s do-it-all superzoom lenses. This lens is interesting, even with the very existance of this lens. This lens is designed for Full frame camera such as the Canon 5d mk III, or Nikon d800, etc. This cameras are very expensive in itself, and I see no point in them unless you strive for the possible best image and low light picture quality. The lens is like the Tamron 28-300 will not beat lenses like Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 or Canon 70-200 f/2.8L which lenses usually associated with Full frame cameras. Without testing it, I would say that the Tamron 28-300mm is not tack sharp at 300mm f/6.3 wide open, or even 28mm at f/3.5. I think in the center is quite sharp though. But this lens can be very useful in travel for example, when you don’t want to carry two 1kg beast with you to change them time to time.

Range

The range is very useful, although the new Aps-C Tamron starts from 16mm, which is an equivalent of 24mm on Full frame cameras. Perhaps the next step would be the lens to start at 24mm.

New functions

The new lens has a vibration control feature and Usd drive, both are very useful.

Recommendation

On the official site this lens is recommmended for Aps-C cameras, but I would say this range is weird on Aps-C camera (especially the not too wide end of 28mm). For Aps-C cameras I recommended something like the Tamron 18-270mm, because of the much more useful wide angle.

Compatibility

The new Tamron 28-300mm is compatible with Canon, and Nikon bodies, the lens has a built in motor for Dx entry models.

Mechanical quality

The lens is surprisingly compact for this range, looks like the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, but a little heavier.
