Panasonic G6 is a Milc camera. Milc camera means Mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. What is the difference compare to a compact or a Dsrl camera ? Milc cameras has rear LCD panel or electronic viewfinder for focusing instead of the Pentamirror or Pentaprism of the Dsrl’s, this design makes them smaller. Compare to the compact cameras the Milc cameras has bigger sensors, better image quality, and interchangeable lens mounts. The aim was at designing Milc cameras to make Dsrl quality cameras in smaller camera body.

Why Panasonic: I thought of Panasonic because of the quality viewfinder, micro 4/3 sensor, and good video quality. If the sensors smaller size and the viewfinder is not a preference I would say the Sony Nex perhaps a better deal. If price and video is not a preference perhaps the Olympus is better.

Panasonic lineup until now:

Panasonic G1,
Panasonic G2,
Panasonic G3, perhaps a good deal until available
Panasonic G5 (G4 not too fortunate number in Japan)

Panasonic GH1,
Panasonic GH2
Panasonic GH2

Panasonic Gx 1
Panasonic Gx 7

Camera models without viewfinder:

GF5
GF6

The Panasonic G6 has a very good picture quality and excellent video quality. The camera has got many of the features of the previous pricier Panasonic GH2 model.

What are the competition: Sony Nex, Pentax, Fuji, Olympus E-p5.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Panasonic ?
Advantages: Small size, video quality, good viewfinder, good autofocus system, direct controls simple menu, price

Disadvantages? High iso department Sony, Fuji, Olympus are better

Price comparison:
Panasonic g6: 748 dollar
Fuji X-E1: 799 dollar
Olympus E-P5: 999 dollar
Sony Nex 3-N:448 dollar

Picture quality: very good but on paper the Sony, and latest Fuji and Olympus are better. The difference is not very big in normal usage, at higher iso’s perhaps the Sony, Olympus and the Fuji has bigger advantage. The competition seems fierce in this segment.
