Seems the new Canon lens is coming, as it was reported Canon will release 8 new lenses in 2014, the first two(a Canon 16-35mm f/4 is lens is also announced, see link below) is coming. This lens is an ultra wide angle Aps-C lens which means not compatible with Full frame cameras. The lens is relatively small and really light, paired with the Canon 100D we can have a very light weight kit. The Stm stepping motor is optimized for video with the newest Slr cameras. The new Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens price is 299 dollar, which seems cheap for such a lens, if the lens is good optically. An interesting question is what this lens is gonna be ? A very good quality lens very cheap for keep folks at Canon or a kit lens quality alens with little contrast or reduced sharpness? The alternatives are all more expensive significantly, but the first question is how good is the new lens? The older Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-5.6 is 600 dollar, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 and f/4-5.6 lenses are also much more expensive, than the new Canon.
