Nikon 16-85mm vr sample photos
According to me with the Nikon d7000 camera the results are superb. This lens is not as sharp as the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or the Canon 17-55mm lens (no matter for Nikon anyway) (especially contrast) but very close, on top of that wider, much longer and more versatile. Compare to the Nikon 17-55mm, the advantage of the 17-55mm is mainly the f/2.8 brightness. The only real downside of this lens is the brightness. Even the f/3.5 is not very bright, f/5.6 at the long end is not bright at all. If I want to nitpick it is from plastic, which is more fragile than metal lenses, but this is a consumer lens, for consumer lens price.

There is some distortion, in this case perhaps a Tilt shift lens would be better, Nikon D7000, Nikon 16-85 vr 19mm, f/4.5, ISO 400 1/400s, resized to 900 pixel, uncropped |
