The Nikon 35mm 1.8 is one of my favorite lenses. This is the Dx lens not the newer Full frame ED version. Small, bright, light compact and makes very nice images. The aperture range is between f/1.8 and f/22. This is my inside the room, low light lens, but also very usable for example for street photography. Most picture was made with a Nikon d7000 16 megapixel camera except noted otherwise with a default setting of landscape Fine 2400 pixel (small) jpg.

The lens has a little 1.7% distortion. It is not very disturbing, but for portraits needs to think about you like or not. The usual 50mm lenses usually has very little distortion. On a crop sensor the 35mm is definitely more useful for multiple purposes, than the 50mm.
