The Tamron 180mm macro is not a most common lens you can buy. The 180mm focal length combined with the relatively wide f/3.5 makes pictures nicely blurred even from a little more distance.

As I see the optical quality of the Tamron 180mm macro is very high. The pictures are very sharp with strong contrast starting from the wide open f/3.5 aperture, all the way up to the smallest apertures (at least on my 8 Megapixel Canon 30D) and also there is a good possibility to play with the out of focus blur as well. To compare to lenses like the Canon 60mm, the 60mm has better resolution, but lot less creative potential and less working distance, which is tiring if we plan to make lots of insect images.
