Common buzzard – Buteo buteo
The Common buzzard is a very common bird in Hungary as it’s name suggests. There are more than thousand pair of buzzards nests in Hungary, and wintertime some others come from the neighboring countries. The buzzard is an average sized birds of prey, it’s size is 50-55cm, and has a wingspan of 110-130cm. The buzzard mainly eats rodents on the plain areas and plow lands. In winter many buzzards can be seen next to main roads, waiting for run over animals.

Goshawk – Accipiter gentilis
The Goshawk is a very powerful bird of prey. An average sized birds of prey, but can hunt for prey up to adult rabbit size. The Goshawk is similar to the Sparrowhawk but bigger. The Female is usually bigger than the male. The Goshawk has a distinctive longer tail compare to the body size, and smaller more roundish wings.

Sparrowhawk – Accipiter nisus
The Sparrowhawk is a smaller sized birds of prey. The Sparrowhawk is smaller than a rook. It’s very common than the Rook chasing the Sparrowhawk in the sky. The Sparrowhawk mainly eats small birds.

Northern harrier – Circus cyaneus
The Northern harrier is mainly a winter visitor in Hungary. The Northern Harrier males has blueish colour, while the females are brownish.

Western Marsh Harrier – Circus aeruginosus
The Wester Marsh Harrier is a huge slim bird, usually much bigger than the Buzzard for example. Usually flies near to the ground or water soaring for prey.
