Canon XC10 release date review specs
Canon announced the new Canon Xc 10 camcorder. This a new product, there was no such product on the market before. The new Canon XC 10 has a 1″ sensor, and can record 4K video. The camcorder can use 305 mbits, has a Dslr like operation. The camcorder has a tilting grip and there is a viewfinder which can be attached to the screen if we want to use it at eye-level.
High frame rate slow motion is also possible at 100 (PAL) or 120 frames per second (NTSC) at 720p setting at a 35 or 50Mbs. The grip has a photo video mode selection toggle, record start stop button and exposure button, all these functions comfortably can be used with index finger. The grip tilts up to 90 degrees to help in low or high angle video recording or stills shooting.

Competition / alternatives / rivals
The Canon XC10 is looks a bit of a Nikon 1 for me. Who is this for ? The price is quite high for a 1″ sensor. You can buy a Full frame Canon Dslr for this, with a 8x bigger sized sensor, stellar low light capability even with lens.
Panasonic and Sony is extremely strong in this segment if we concentrate on video. The Sony a6000 has an Aps-C CMOS sensor (the sensor area is 3x times bigger) with stellar quality, but at the moment only record HD videos not 4K. The Panasonic GH4 is shoot 4K video, it has a 4/3 sensor which is also double in size, and it is an extremely strong competitor. We can change lenses as well.
Sony RX100 III has a 1″ sensor as the Canon XC10, also with a fixed lens, but the lens has a brightness of 1/1.8-1/2.8, which is very useful but for a smaller 24-70mm range. Arguably this is the best compact camera on the market today. The Panasonic LX100 also record 4K video, and has a 4/3 sensor as well.
The Panasonic FZ1000 is also an alternative. It has a longer and brighter lens (25-400mm f/2.8-f/4), with the same sized sensor but with 20 Megapixel instead of 12. It is not clear at the moment which is better the 20 or the 12 megapixel.
Obviously we cannot know the quality of the XC10 before checking it, but on paper doesn’t seem a must have product at the moment.
