Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art release date price specs
Seems the long awaited Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art portrait lens is finally coming. This lens was expected when the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 Art lens was released. This kins of a lens is a workhorse for the professional portrait photographer. For 1200 USD it is not really cheap, but much more affordable than the competition (Nikon 85mm 1.4 and the Canon 85mm 1.2 version II lenses). The wide f/1.4 aperture helps to create pleasing buttery creamed background for portrait photography. I think this lens is extremely sharp if it follows the line of the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art, Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art, and the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 lenses. Regarding the competition it is cheaper by 400 USD than the Nikon version, and 600 USD than the Canon version (the 1.2 though), which makes the lens quite attractive.

Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art MTF curves
Below you can check the MTF curves for the new lens.
The upper line is the contrast the below line shows resolution (detail).
The left part of the chart shows the center of the lens, the right part is the extreme corners.
The ideal MTF would be a horizontal line as close to 1 as possible.
Actually if we use this lens for portraits the corners are not so relevant, but I am sure everyone prefers dead sharp corners as well, if for example we use the lens for landscapes occasionally.
