Optical quality – Nikon 70-200 f4 vs Canon 70-200 f4

For me it seems the Nikon is much better. It doesn’t mean that the Canon is bad at all. The Nikon is tack sharp wide open at both ends of the zoom range, even on a 24Mp Nikon d7100 camera. The Canon is also sharp even at f/4 but not as much as the Nikon. The Nikon is extremely good.

Build quality – Nikon 70-200 f4 vs Canon 70-200 f4

The Canon is more reassuring for me. The Nikon seems a light, thin sheet of metal, light and feels very nice but I don’t know how it behaves against heavy abuse. The Canon feels rock solid and durable.

Teleconverters – Nikon 70-200 f4 vs Canon 70-200 f4

Both lens is acceptable with a 1.4 teleconverter attached, if you need a bit of extra reach (280mm f/5.6). I wouldn’t put a 1.7x, or the 2x teleconverter on them though.

2. Nikon 70-200 f4 vr vs Canon 70-200 f4 is

We not tested the IS version yet, but here a difference expected to be minimal. As I see here is the difference is much bigger in the cameras, Nikon’s newer 24Mp unit, and even the older 16Mp is excellent, Canon is not really up there in the Aps-C line, but it is a matter of taste as well.
