Tamron 150 600 Full size samples

Here I put several Full size jpg from the 8Megapixel Canon 30D camera and the new Tamron 150-600 lens. Most picture was made from a tripod, but not all of them. Note that at longer focal lengths the depth of field is extremely shallow, usually there is only a small portion of the picture that is sharp where the picture was focused. The resolution of the pictures is 3504*2336 pixel and approximately 4-5MB of size. The pictures was made in bright sunlight, high ISO was used to see what is the maximum the lens optically can do.

Almost 6MB 8 Megapixel jpg. This size is usually have with wide angle lenses like the Canon 17-55 is or the Tamron 17-50. At this focal length the 150-600 is extremely sharp even wide open, no point to stop down unless more depth of field needed.

Opinion on Tamron 150-600

Seems a fantastic lens and a very attractive price point especially in the States(in Europe the price is 50% more). In Nikon I see no competition especially at this price point. You can get nothing even close to this quality or focal length at this price point at Nikon line. The excellent 300 f4 Nikkor is not 600mm. With the 1.4x the price is even more. In Canon the also excellent 400mm f/5.6 is a serious competitor high amount of contrast and fantastic colours, not bad with the converter attached. The Tamron has three very significant advantages: image stabilization, versatility and price. At 400 f/5.6 the Canon is perhaps better(by a slight margin), especially contrast. The Canon is smaller, significantly lighter and better build.
