Yongnuo 35mm f/2

Yongnuo was known about flash units mainly on a budget price. But after they started to produce a Canon 50mm f/1.8 clone at a discounted price. What is more interesting now they will produce a 35mm f/2 lens for Canon as well. Seems the 50mm is very popular even hard to get a copy for testing. Don’t think is a product you cannot miss, but the price is quite friendly. The 50mm is works, and seems makes capable images, no usm drive same lens formula as the Canon. In the corners the Canon better.

Sigma lens incompatibility issues

Some incompatibility issues can occur with Sigma lenses and newer Canon cameras (Nikon as well). The cure can be different usually a free firmware update can solve the problem, or a USB dock, but in certain cases must send back the lens to Sigma. Canon 150-600mm f/5.6 is – Canon news

Such a lens not exist – yet, but perhaps can come in the future. Tamron makes the very popular Tamron 150-600mm lens for 1070 USD and it becomes a hot seller, must wait months to have one. After Sigma makes the Sigma 150-600 Sports lens, which is little more expensive, but seems very popular as well. The Trend the folks selling the very expensive 500mm 600mm prime lenses from Canon and buy Sigma and Tamron instead. I thought perhaps Canon also can make a little better L version with proper USM focus and stabilizer, and perhaps a little brighter proper f/5.6 version, or f/6.3 or even f/8 would be interesting with fluorite or ud elements. Who knows ?

Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 lens – Canon news

The German manufacturer’s ultra fast prime lens is already available for 1900 USD for Canon EOs-M cameras. The lens is also available in other mounts as well as Sony, Fuji X and Micro 4/3 as well. There are also other lenses projected with different characteristics, like a new Wide angle lens, a Tilt-shift lens, a longer high speed mirror lens and perhaps many other. The 40mm f/0.85 has concave front lens element, 67mm filter thread, 2.5′ minimum focusing distance. The lens is designed for Aps-C sensors. I never used such a bright lens, compare to the classic 50mm f/1.8 this lens allows more than 4 times shutter speed or lower iso. The depth of field I guess is extremely shallow at such large aperture setting. As you probably guess it is a manual focus lens. The throw of the manual focus is 250 degree, which helps in precise focusing. The lens has 10 circular aperture blades. The lens made of high quality materials, such as anodized aluminium, stainless steel and brass. The weight of the lens is 1.2 kg, the size is 74 x 128 mm or 2.91 x 5.04″. Bit strange the huge weight, high price on mirrorless cameras designed for being small. This lens inclined for pro shooters, good for FF Sony according to my opinion. The lens has a metal lens barell and integrated lens hood.

Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 – Canon news

The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens come soon for 1200 USD. The lens projected to be available from February.

Canon 400mm f/5.6 II or Canon 400mm f5.6 is ? – Canon news

No official announcement but I somehow think this lens can be one of the new lenses in the Canon lineup. The original version is a true best seller, a lens with one of the best reputation in the Canon lineup. Canon sold many of these lenses. Many people like it, use it, and perhaps willing to pay a little extra for a little better optical performance or a stabilizer. The weight and size of the lens is quite nice, the autofocus is quick and silent. We well see..If Canon release the new version it will be more expensive it is almost sure, as we see at many other lenses recently.

Samyang 135mm f/2 lens is coming – Canon news

Yongnuo lenses converters adapters – Canon news 2015

It is interesting Chinese manufacturer Youngnuo known for it’s flash units expand their product range towards lenses, teleconverters, adapters and who knows what else. On Ebay such items appear as a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens clone, Canon 2x extender clone, Canon EF-M lens adapters and such. The price for the 50mm lens is barely cheaper than the original Canon product (won’t be a huge surprise if the Youngnuo would be better, at least in build quality). Yongnuo flashes has a good value, now even high speed synch is possible with the more advanced models. Would be interesting a cheap Yongnuo “L” – Canon telephoto for example ?

Canon 35mm f/1.4 L II – Canon news 2015

The second version of the Canon 35mm f/1.4 prime lens can come in 2015. Canon already submitted a patent for the new lens.

50 Megapixel Canon 3d ? – Canon news 2015

According to newest rumors an 50 Megapixel Full frame Canon 3d can come in the near future perhaps in 2015. As Nikon has a big success with it’s 36 Megapixel camera, it is not impossible such an answer from Canon. But don’t take this too seriously, perhaps it is just a rumor for some reason.

Tamron 180mm macro review

The Tamron 180mm f/3.5 macro is an interesting lens. The longer focal length helps to blur the background/foreground in a more enhanced way. It is also cheaper than the long macro alternatives (Canon 180mm, Sigma 150, 180mm macro lenses). Tamron 180mm macro review

What about a new Canon EOS M mirrorless

There is a rumors here and there about a new Canon Mirrorless camera. It is interesting, if Canon make something in this area. What would be really interesting is a Full frame mirrorless Canon, which is not very likely, because of new lenses would needed in this case, with smaller distance from the sensor. Existing lenses could be used with an adapter, but this is perhaps not so elegant solution. A possibility is a fixed non-changeable bright lens as well, as Sony made it in some of it’s models. Who knows ?

Seems there is a huge collection of image processing softwares, Adobe, DXO, and Phase One is released it’s new versions of their Capture one software. A professional software can help a lot in post processing to have the best results. The most popular out of these softwares is Lightroom, the best for sharpening is Capture one, for lens corrections and noise reduction DXO is the best according to my opinion. All these softwares has many new functions.

Lightroom 5.7

Adobe released the new version of the very popular Lightroom image processing program. The new version supports the newest Canon 7d Mk II and many new lenses as well.

The new version supports the following new EF mount lenses:

Zeiss 85/1.4 ZE
Sigma 18-300mm
Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3
Tokina 116 11-16mm f/2.8

DXO Optics Pro 10 – Canon news 2015

DXO also released the new version of the DXO Optics Pro. The current version is the DXO Optics Pro 10. What is very good in DXO Optics that the software can auto-correct many things, like lighting levels, or lens distortions. Haze from landscapes and smog from city pictures can be automatically removed by a new clearview function. The DXO is also very good at noise reduction. The Elite version sells for 199 USD, the cheaper Essential Pro version sells for 129 USD.

Capture One Pro 8 – Canon news 2015

Phase one also released their excellent program, with new functions. The new clone and heal tool helps to remove unwanted spots from the picture, like dust. The HDR tools helps to get pull out more details from the highlight and shadow areas. Local adjustments like noise reduction or sharpening also possible just some parts of the image. The catalogs function is very helpful to organize collections of images. The initial price is 739 USD.

DXO release test data for the new Canon 7d Mk II

The numbers:
Color depth: 22.4 bits
Dynamic range: 11.8 EV
High ISO: 1082

What does this means? As I see it the sensor basically the same as before, or very slightly improved with a little better software. Dynamic range and color depth doesn’t changed. Compare to the 7d the difference is app 20-30% in High iso score (854 was the 7d). My Nikon d7000 is significantly better in all three areas, especially in Dynamic range (13.9 EV). It doesn’t mean the Canon 7d II is a bad camera at all. The Canon 7d II has a very capable af system, high frame rate (10 fps), decent buffer (34 Raw images), and unique Dual pixel video af, which for example the Nikon d7100 lacks (all of them). I checked today many places how different people interpret these numbers. Most people was happy with the new 7d Mk II sensor performance. I thought if Canon waited 5 years they will put a new, significantly better sensor in the 7d mk II. It is true that the Dynamic range is the same for Full frame Canons as well, the Canon 6d is the best with a 12.1 EV. Several years before Canon was leading the sensor technology by a huge margin, now seems Sony is ahead, and Panasonic and Olympus is very close, and better in some aspects than Canon. As I see pictures and videos from the new 7d II it is capable of stunning results. According to me the 1700 USD is a bit steep (same as a FF 6d), but hopefully will be cheaper in some time.
